A cleric, Apostle Alfred Williams has shifted blame on any attempt to ‘Islamize’ Nigeria to two former Presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
Williams, who is the General Overseer of the Christ Faith Tabernacle, argued that heaping blame on President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue is misplaced.
He questioned lack of will by the two former leaders to withdraw Nigeria from Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC).
The United Kingdom-based pastor taunted Obasanjo and Jonathan, who are both Christians to account for their failures from withdrawing Nigeria from OIC as complicit in the ‘Islamization’ tension.
Williams noted that the suspicion the issue had generated is needless, saying if Christians, who had ruled this country at different times failed to excuse the country from OIC, the basis for accusing Buhari of plot to Islamise Nigeria won’t exist.
“That’s another scam,” Apostle Williams had earlier told one of the national dailies when asked on the suspicion on a grand plot to Islamise Nigeria.
“Who says there is a plot to Islamize Nigeria? Let them give us the blueprint on TV and show us the plan so that all of us will know there is a plan.”
Buttressing his points, the cleric quoted a Bible verse to support his claims on the problem facing the country and how to overcome it, pointing out that Nigeria membership of OIC already conferred the country ‘Islamic’ status.
He said “Let me tell you this, Ezekiel 22 is the problem and solution of Nigeria. It talks about the godless prophet and government officials and there’s no one to inter-cede so God said I’ll pour my wrath.
“So, if they want to Islamize Nigeria, are you just knowing that Nigeria is a member of Organization of Islamic Countries OIC? Did Nigeria not have Christian presidents?
“Obasanjo was a Christian, why didn’t he take us out of it? Jonathan was a Christian president, why didn’t he take us out of it?
“Why can’t church leaders in this country say that we are not an Islamic country and take Nigeria out of this thing?
“So, if they cannot, who want to Islamize Nigeria? It’s those Christian leaders and all those people who live a life of greed.”
