Just last week, the future of a 5-year-old Ibadan boy, Tajudeen (surname unknown) was shrouded in uncertainty when a caption of a video which derided him as ‘Oloriburuku’ (unfortunate person) emerged online.
In the viral video shared by a comedian, Ladimeji Azeez, aka Elamefa, portrayed the hopelessness of Taju, whose family impoverished state prevented him from going to school, yet he is seen trying to learn English Language informally.
It could be recalled that Tajudeen was recorded in an instagram video, where he was asked questions in English language and could not respond because he could not converse in the language.
His passion for education despite his situation, evoked emotions online and attracted interests from viewers to help him enrol in school.
One of such interests is that of a Nollywood actress, Funmi Awelewa, who searched for the young lad and traced him to downtown of Ibadan, where she also met Tajudeen’s mother.
The picture of the actress with Tajudeen and his mother during her visit, drew more attention to the young man situation and offers to help him fulfil his education desire.
Aside Awelewa, top celebrities such as Marvin record boss, Don Jazzy, hip-hop artist, Ay Makun, Mo Abudu among others, have indicated interests in supporting him to have education and have a better future.
Obviously touched by Tajudeen’s pitiable story, Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi and his wife, Florence Ajimobi, hosted the boy at the government house and offered to take-up his education and welfare responsibilities.
Mrs. Ajimobi noted that he will be taken into custody of the child welfare unit of the state government, where his educational and other needs will be adequately taken care of.
A statement issued by the first lady’s office reiterated Mrs. Ajimobi’s commitment to improving the quality of life of children and urged the young parents not to be irresponsible to the role of training their children but care for the children with the required nourishment and basics of life.
“In the meantime, case work intervention is on going on the issue so as to bring it to a logical conclusion,” conveying the commitment of the state government to reducing the vulnerability of children and the under privileged in the state.
