Ahead of July 14 governorship election holding in Ekiti state, All Grand Alliance Party (AGAP) has elected Steve Oribamise as its gubernatorial candidate.
The party, said in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Okey Chikwendu that the candidate emerged in the Primary election held on Saturday, May 12 at Little by Little hall in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
According to the party, three aspirants including Mr Oribamise and Sola Oluponmile, jostled for the party’s ticket but one was disqualified because of his age.
“Our Party had its primary on 12th of May, which was two days ago at Little by Little Hall in Ado-Ekiti. We had three aspirants but one of the aspirants, Mr. Ifemide who commands a massive youth followership was underaged constitutionally to contest the gubernatorial election.
“The Screening Committee Set up by the NEC recommended that he be stepped down from contesting the election. So, he was advised that he could not participate in the election. The other two young aspirants who contested were Mr Steve Oribamise and Engr Sola Oluponmile,” the party’s boss said.
AGAP chief, however, noted that Steve Oribamise finally emerged the governorship aspirant of the Party while his co-contender, Sola Oluponmile was later chosen as running mate.
“We are happy that a very transparent primaries was conducted, which has produced Oribamise as our elected party’s flagbearer, All Grand Alliance Party.
“Our party’s flag was ceremoniously handed over to him and in his acceptance speech he requested to have Engr.Oluponmile as his deputy and he accepted.
“We ask the Ekiti people and youths especially to come out enmass and support AGAP as we ultimately desire to bring prosperity to the people”.
