Ex-Governors Plot Hijack of Senate Presidency

As the race for the Senate President of the 9th National Assembly hots up,ex-governors are plotting to have one of their own as the new Senate President.

Checks showed that the most favoured senator for the top job is Ahmed Lawan ,the current Senate Leader. He reportedly enjoys the support of many powerful elements within the party including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and others leading members of the cabal.

Lawan is also seen to have paid his dues following his deep loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari and the party.Lawan was the party’s choice for Senate Presidency in 2015 before Senator Bukola Saraki upstaged the agenda. In the 9th Assembly,he is assumed to be well placed to secure the position on a platter of gold.

Recent politicking within the party is however raising a new danger signal for the Yobe politician.Powerful ex-governors elected on the platform of the party are allegedly scheming to instal a former governor as Senate President.

The governors now senators constitute powerful bloc within the Senate.Checks showed that a former governor from the North East is showing interest despite the fact that he is a first timer and therefore not qualify based on the Senate house rules. Two other ex-governors from South South and South East are also in the race even though the duo are very controversial.

In the north central, another ex-governor is said to be interested in the position.

The scheming is complicated by the refusal of President Muhammadu Buhari to openly take a position on the jostling for the Number Three position.
