The Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi on Wednesday said his commission has secured N3bn housing loan for members of staff of the corps from Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
Oyeyemi, who disclosed this in Abuja when Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Ahmed Dangiwa was presenting N1m cheque to each beneficiary noted that no fewer than 1,402 members of staff across the country have benefited from the loan.
The FRSC boss told newsmen that he was able to facilitate the loan under a scheme called National Housing Fund (NHF), saying the commission is determined to ensure that all corps officials numbering over 30,000 has at least, a house anywhere in the country.
“When we came onboard, I was appointed in 2014, and I was coming back from the State House and I addressed the staff. One of the first things I told the staff is on one man, one house and we have a workforce of over 30,000.
“I told them that it is my joy that by the time I finish my tenure, everybody would have a roof and it’s going to be one Man one house. I am happy we have made tremendous progress in respect of this and the first thing I did was to proceed to the FMBN because I know in our salary, there is always a deduction of NHF and it’s remitted to the FMBN and it has various projects all over the federation,” Oyeyemi said.
He added, “I encourage the staff that you may be in Abuja, you can procure your house in Sokoto or anywhere in the country. What I want is that I want you to be a landlord and you can stay anywhere, you can be using the rent to pay for where you are staying.
“When properties appreciate, you can even sell it and invest in another thing. Today I’m happy we are making this progress.
“N1.2 billion has been disbursed so far to the FRSC for 1,207 beneficiaries and I want to express our deep appreciation to the management of FMBN for having that trust in us and I think this is one of the highest disbursement to any MDAs.
“When it comes to the remittances, I think we are not holier than pope, but we have been more religious in complying with the monthly remittances, which is why we are getting more and we are still going to get more every year, every quarter because am very passionate about staff welfare.”
He further explained that N640m cheques were being presented to 640 beneficiaries on Wednesday apart those who had earlier benefited from the loan, totalling 1,207 beneficiaries.
Also, speaking during the presentation, CEO of the Bank, Dangiwa confirmed FRSC boss’ explanations, adding that N15.7bn has so far been disbursed by FMBN to 19,169 beneficiaries across the country under the Home Renovation Loan window.
He said, “Today, we are witnessing the presentation of cheques amounting to N640m to 640 beneficiaries. This brings total disbursement to FRSC to N1.2bn for 1,207 beneficiaries across the country.
“This is in addition to the sum of N1.8bn approved for 195 staff of FRSC as mortgage loans for the purchase of their own houses.,”
In their reactions to presentation of the cheques, two beneficiaries of the loan, Mrs Fidelia Ogbonne (Route Commander) and Taldang Tanim (Marshal Inspector 1) commended President Buhari-led administration and FRSC boss for making officials of FRSC happy with the arrangement.
