The mega rally of the North West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party is creating unease among supporters of the ruling party in Nigeria.
The rally attended by thousands of party supporters from the zone appears to have questioned assumptions of supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari that the core north is a no go area for the opposition in next year election.
The massive turn out is reportedly a test run by the leadership of the PDP who plans to hold similar rallies across other two zones of the North.
“We are starting from areas they called their strongholds. We want to show the world that the APC is gone even before next year”, a PDP chieftain who attended the Jigawa rally noted.
The development is reported to have jolted strategists within the ruling party who are said to have repeatedly asserted that about 12 million votes are waiting for the President to harvest across the core north.
The situation is even more disturbing to the President’s men because the infighting between Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Ganduje is also threatening to split the votes of the party in Kano.
Kaduna is reported to be unstable while Katsina is facing protracted internal battles.
