Kano Re-Run Goes Spiritual,Ganduje, Abba Supporters Invoke Holy Quran
Kano state is gripped in political tension with traditional and opinion leaders appealing to political factions not to allow the fierce contest for state power to snowball into violence.
Today across the state,the battle for the state governorship has gone spiritual with both sides engaging in marathon prayers and recitation of holy Quran.Kano is reputed as a major capital of Islamic scholarship and knowledge.The two camps are placing their case before God.
In Dala local government ,one of the local governments where re-run election will take place ,hundreds of loyalists of the incumbent governor,Umar Ganduje assembled for special prayer session with top mallams reciting the Quran and praying for the success of the governor.
The prayer which was well attended by many party loyalists also saw them praying for peaceful conduct of the re-run election.Similar prayers were reportedly held across the other local government where the re-run are to be held.
For the supporters of Abba Kabir,the prayer session was in form of procession across major streets of the capital by thousands of youth ,chanting “hasbiyallahu,wanimoliwakil(It is God we rely on,not human beings or our own power )
The procession was dominated by youth with many of them holding Quran.The procession was however peaceful.
A leader of the procession was quoted as noting that the event was both a prayer and political jihad to reclaim Kano state.
