Mali crisis worsening, says UN Secretary-General

Following the release of the most recent report on Mali on October 2nd, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the security situation in Mali has severely deteriorated over the past three months.

In the report, Guterres depicted a country torn apart by various ethnic and extremist groups targeting the Malian army and international forces—thousands of people have been displaced trying to flee conflict and 287 civilians have been killed in the last three months.

The humanitarian situation is also said to have deteriorated due to cumulative clashes and a poor rainy season in 2017.
