Robbers burgle APC Secretariat, cart away air conditioners
Suspected robbers early hours on Monday sneaked into the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress located at Blantyre Street, Wuse II, Abuja and carted away two air conditioners before they were arrested.
It was gathered that the robbers, who passed through the back of the building where they destroyed security wires on the fence before they gained entry into the premises at about 2:30am were nabbed by security operatives manning entrance of the building.
One of the police officers who was on duty told journalists that he heard some noise and decided to check through the back of the building.
On getting there, he said he thought it was his colleague, until he shouted his name, then he answered from the main building not knowing the person he was seeing kneeling down was one of the robbers.
He added that he moved closer and then grabbed him from back.
The security man explained that the robbers had already removed one of the air conditioners and place it ontop of the fence for easy transfer to their waiting vehicle while the second one was nearly done with before they were nabbed.
Another one was arrested across the fence after others had already taken to their heels.
Our correspondent who visited the secretariat saw the destroyed wire on the fence by robbers which they used to secure entrance during the raid.
It was gathered that there have been complaints on lack of adequate security lights at the party secretariat.
Reliable source had it that during the night, the darkness that envelops the secretariat is better imagined than felt.
As of the time of filing this report, information has it that two of the robbers are currently in Wuse 2 police station explaining their involvement in the attack.
Meanwhile, FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma confirmed the development to journalists.
He said, “The arrest has been made, investigation is going on.”
