The governing council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has dismissed Professor Richard Akindele from the services of the University for gross misconduct.
Akindele became the centre of attention when an audio conversation of him and a student emerged, with the professor heard pestering the female student for sex to increase her marks.
The leaked audio, which went viral, drew anger from the public, who demanded an inquiry and take action if the professor is found culpable.
In the heat of the issue, the Vice-chancellor of OAU, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede vowed sanction for anyone found culpable in the sex-for-marks scandal rocking the school.
On Wednesday, while disclosing the findings of the committee set up by the school to investigate the matter, Ogunbodede, said the panel found Akindele culpable of immoral act with his student and disengaged him from the service of the institution.
Ogunbodede said the council considered findings of the panel which established that Akindele had an inappropriate relationship with one of his students, Miss Monica Osagie – a claim to which the professor admitted.
“Council also discovered that the don had offered to change Osagie’s 33 per cent result to a pass mark, in consideration for sexual favours,” he added.
